Why do you need Technology Tutors?

The biggest challenge facing today's teacher is  the ability to teach students as individuals. The biggest concern parents have, or should have,  is the assurance that their child is able to receive the full benefit of their school education.

As teachers in a class of 20 to 30 students we have to ensure that

  • the lessons meet the curriculum requirements
  • the individual does not get  "lost"
  • the prior learning of each student is addressed
  • the student with learning disabilities is supported.
  • the gifted student receives appropriate challenges

The reality is that as soon as a student does not understand something, or is not interested in the subject, or may feel they know all about it, many of them start misbehaving or do not even try. The teacher's main effort may go into managing this behaviour rather than teaching the class and helping them with their learning. This is where we can help. We can assist learners to a level where they can better perform in a mainstream classroom as well as providing additional challenges for the ones that need it.

We specialise in robotics as a fun learning tool in exploring basic electronics, control systems and programming. These are based on mathematics and physics and it is a great way to teach students off all abilities higher order thinking skills and creativity.

Katana Sue

Katana Dunn is a qualified electronic engineer with over 20 years industry experience. She completed a Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning (Secondary), majoring in Mathematics and Science with Physics, in 2008.

Her main interests are robotics and developing interactive E-resources for Teaching and Learning.

Sue Linscott is a trained teacher and completed a course in Specific Learning Disabilities in New Zealand in 2007. She teaches in this field in various locations around Christchurch, helping students improve their learning.

She also presents robotic workshops with Katana.
